What is Home Care funding?

The most common source of support is the Home Care Package (HCP) program, administered through My Aged Care.
Types of Home Care Funding Available in Australia:
1. Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
For seniors who only need one or two basic services to remain at home. CHSP is ideal for short-term or occasional help like house cleaning or transport.
2. Home Care Packages (HCP)
For those with ongoing or complex care needs. There are four levels of HCP funding, each designed to match the level of support required:
- Level 1: Basic care needs
- Level 2: Low care needs
- Level 3: Intermediate care needs
- Level 4: High-level care needs
Each level comes with an allocated budget, which is used to pay for the care and services you choose, delivered by your selected provider.
3. Private Funding
You may choose to pay for additional services privately if your package doesn’t cover everything you need — or while you wait for funding approval.
How to Apply for a Home Care Package
- Register with My Aged Care(by phone or online)
- Get assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT)
- Receive your approval letter and funding level
- Wait for package assignment (there may be a queue)
- Choose your Home Care provider
- Start receiving care tailored to your needs
